The Impact of Cultural Factors on the Diffusion Rate of Information Technology in Subsidiaries of a Multinational Corporation

چکیده

The purpose of this research project has been to investigate the impact of cultural factors of host countries of multinational corporation subsidiaries on the diffusion rate of information technology among them. Strategic aspects of IT infrastructure within multinational corporation context are discussed in theoretical part, along with IT globalisation issues, such as benefits and tools of IT global infrastructure implementation, and cultural barriers in globalisation projects implementations. The subject of the empirical study has been to research the IT diffusion rate in various business units of a multinational corporation in the context of a global IT infrastructure implementation. This study was conducted in a form of an in-depth case study at 34 Company X business units by means of a survey, which was launched in a corporate Intranet. As a result of user responses’ analysis, it was found out, that cultural factors have strong impact on the diffusion rate of IT in various business units of Company X. The diffusion rate of various IT infrastructure elements was also researched in scope of this project and recommendations for IT infrastructure improvements were made. Directions for future projects of this nature are given in a concluding section.
